Future Skills 2030
DESCRIPTION
There is a lack of innovative and effective ways to measure the non-academic skills young people need to ensure lifelong success and stability, and specifically to tackle the jobs of the future. In a time of massive change employers, assessment experts and instructional designers -- and more importantly community leaders, educators, families and students -- do not agree on what those skills are and how to measure them. These ambiguities and lack of data lead to a range of challenges for workers, governments, and employers in developing a 21st century workforce, and make it difficult for educators, families, and communities to guide and support the development of students. It is difficult to assess the equity of existing policies and programs without a clear understanding of what and how to measure future career skills.
This discussion will focus on 1) Innovative ways of using technology and data to measure career-relevant skills, 2) How the process of defining constructs for career-relevant skills measurement could be improved, and 3) Engaging communities and building consensus around the definition and measurement of career-relevant skills.
